Fight to win

Junior Witter was making the 3rd defence of his WBC belt this past Saturday night against American challenger Timothy Bradley in front of his home fans and screened on Showtime to America.
Bradley was not a big name but got a shot at this belt by being the top contender.
Witter was impressive in his last outing defeating Vivian Harris but in this fight Witter, yet again, failed to impress the American boxing fans.
With all the calling out for a showdown with Ricky Hatton from Witter it now looks as though that fight will not happen since Witter lost a split decision to the busier Bradley.
Hatton has his fight with Juan Lazcano coming up and if everything goes well for his he will get back on the winning track after his loss to Floyd Mayweather June.
Witter now has to regroup and watch the Bradley fight and see what he didn't do, especially in the last half of the fight. His reign as the WBC light welterweight champion was brought to an end.
I personally think that Witter was boxing smart in the first few rounds, using his jab to keep the more aggressive Bradley from getting close to him. But he did too much switching back and forth in stances and left his head up and pawed with his jab.
Bradley caught on to Witter's tactics early on realizing that Witter was trying to get him to focus on the pawing jab and take his mind off the real target.
Bradley feinted a left jab to Witter's body in the 6th and instead of throwing a straight right he changed it to an overhand punch landing clean on Witter's head putting him down. He was hurt but with only a few seconds left he was able to recover and finish the round.
After this, Witter may have won 1 more round but he looked tired and unwilling to commit to punching. Instead he let his smaller opponent get close and steal the rounds with body shots and left hooks to the head.
The fight was sloppy and didn't look good on TV. Bradley was doing everything to fight but Witter was doing the opposite. Bradley stayed strong for 12 rounds although he had never gone the distance before.
It was a close fight but Bradley traveled to England from America and took the belt away from the champion in his own backyard - and he deserved the win.
If Witter had committed more to letting punches go instead of worrying about getting hit he could have won the fight easily. But he didn't and gave away the close important rounds.
In a rematch Witter needs to change his whole approach to fighting Bradley and look like he wants to win or at least go out trying whether he gets the win or not.
